Going into our 4th season at Barnsley hopes were high. A football club lacking funds, needing to sell many of its top stars, just to bring in new players. The end of the 3rd season was a bit of a disaster, one we needed to try and move on from as quickly as possible. We are focusing on the development of youth players at Barnsley, and so far this tactic has served us well but we have not got to where we need to be, in the Premier League.

At the end of the 3rd season, I really needed to think about the direction the club was taking and if we were going to try and get promoted it needed to be this season. We opted to sign more experienced players for the first team during the summer transfer window, just before the start of the 4th season.

It seemed to pay off we started strong in the league and never looked like dropping out of the play off places, we had got to the play off final at the end of our second season, but we lost this game. At the time may be we were not ready for Premier League football. This season it felt right and we did everything the right way, we did need to have the usual sell of top talent to be able to bring in new players, but the players we were attracting to Barnsley were much better now and things felt right.

With 2 games to go until the Championship season is finished, this is how the table is looking, we are Champions! The promise land of the Premier League is now on its way and we can start preparing to develop the club further and maintain a position in the top league of English football. This summer will be different though, we wont need to sell lots of players to be able to bring additional players to the club. Every player at the club currently is on a long enough contract where we will be able to sell them for a good price and then selling the players to bring in further funds will enable us to invest further in the club and develop the youth players further.

Things are going well now for this Barnsley side and with a place in the Premier League finally secured, we now need to ensure we maintain a position there.
