Three top mental attributes on Football Manager

Mental attributes Football Manager
When you are playing Football Manager, some of the most important attributes on the game can be the mental attributes of your players. When you are looking for players for your team it is a good idea to try and get players with good mental attributes. But what are the top mental attributes to look for on Football Manager I hear you ask? Well in this article I am going to share with you 3 of the top mental attributes that I look out for on football manager.

Decision making

Having the ability to make a decision at the correct time is vital on the football pitch. A couple of situations to think about. If you have a defender who has the ball at the back and there is a striker closing him down to win the ball back, he might have a few options. He could lump it up the field, pass it back to the goalkeeper, he could try to run with the ball forward to try and get out of trouble or he could just pass it to another outfield player. There can be a number of options. Making sure he has good enough mental attributes to make sure he can see any dangers, just imagine he tries to pass it back to your goalkeeper but he does not see a winger cutting in from the inside and then he costs your team a goal.

For me decision making is a very key attribute. It can be good to have player preferred moves to back up your player instructions. For example, I always make sure my center backs have the PPM of plays simple passes.

Determination

This attribute is another key one for me, being able to make sure that your player wants to win a game is key. If your team goes 1-0 down, do you want players who are determined to win the game or players who will give up? I know which I would prefer. Determination is linked with personality and generally the higher the determination attribute the better the personality of a player. This is not always the case, but in most cases this is true.

Off the ball and positioning

These are two mental attributes, but one will be for getting in good positions when attacking (off the ball) the other is for when your team is defending (positioning). If you have defenders all with good positioning then you might be able to use tactical instructions like "use the offside trap". If your players have decent enough positioning attributes, good decision making skills and of course good anticipation then they should be able to use the offside trap well. When attacking it is a good idea to make sure that your players are moving into decent positions. If you think about Messi, Neymar and Suárez at Barcelona, their movement off the ball is world class and they always seem to be in a position to receive the ball and to make sure they are in a position to do something positive when they get it.

These are just some of the key attributes that I look out for when checking out mental attributes. There are many important ones but I like to build my teams around having players with the above.
