Having just downloaded Football Manager 2014 on Steam, we are underway with our first save game. Past Football Manager saves have normally seen me starting in the lower leagues of the English divisions, where I work my way though the leagues. To start this game though I have decided to branch out a bit further afield. With several leagues loaded and my manager details filled in, all that was left was to pick a team to manage. I support a non-league in "real life" so do have a passion for football lower down the scale. I went for the first lower league team that the game picked randomly for me, Arzanese, who play in the Italian C2/B division, were the team of choice. I like a challenge and believe this team will be very challenging, the finances are not in that much of a bad state:
Promising start to the finances, at least we do not start in debt. Its always nice to know how much money is available to spend on wages and transfers etc, turns out we are right on budget for our wages. Needless to say people will have to move on before new players are brought in to replace them. I will be developing youth players through out this save and will be posting their progress as I go through.
We then get onto the squad page, nothing really out of the ordinary here, a team with mixed abilities, I would say we do have quite a young squad. I do worry about the players personalities, in order for me to develop youth players I will need good tutors with good professional personalities. This is an area I will need to address straight away and will need to think about when searching for transfer targets. Although it will take a few seasons before I manage to change the teams personality into what I would like it to be.
According to the Assistant Managers rating, the guy below is my best player. On the wages he is on for the size of the club, he should be the best player by far. I will need to keep an eye on how he performs for me, if his performances are not up to scratch then he may have to leave and I can then spend his wage allowance on bringing in 2-3 other players. The vast majority of players brought into the club will be on free transfers or loans, this club has a Director Of Football. Lets just hope he is not a Joe Kinnear!
Overall, my views as a manager of this football club are that there has to be a lot of work to make this team into a successful unit. I will need to try and bring in youth player, tutor them, train them, play them and then try to sell them on for a profit. At the moment, I cant really see any players that fit that mould, hopefully a few may shine as the season progresses though.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this team and the players, so please feel free to comment with any comments or tips.
