Football Manager selling players tips and tricks

Football Manager selling players tips

When playing FM 2015, there will be times where you will need to make changes to your squad. A number of contracts might be about to expire, a few players might be coming to the end of the career or you might have received an offer for one of your players that you cant turn down. Its important to know when to sell players and the correct time to sell them. Having played football manager since the 97/98 version, I have had a bit of practice in doing this. So below I will provide all the tips I can give you, I will not put them in order, I will just keep adding to this list as I think of new tips and tricks.

  1. Prepare to remove the dead wood from your team, there will be 2 transfer windows each season, the summer window and the January transfer window. You need to prepare in advance for each of these. The way I do this, once the summer transfer window has shut, I get to the beginning of December and then review who has been playing in my team. If there are any young players who are not getting enough game time, then I will loan these players out. Any older players who are not playing, I will look to transfer these players to other clubs. After the January transfer window is shut, it will be time to review player contracts. You need to ensure any players you want to keep are put on longer contracts. Any players you dont want to keep, but do want to keep until the end of the season, just keep playing them but start looking for new players to replace them.
  2. It can be a good idea to let your staff deal with selling players, try offer players out at their value. You can reduce the value you are looking for, but if no clubs are biting, try not sell them for nothing, unless you really need to. Do always try and hold out for a transfer fee.
  3. Try and learn the best time to sell players. My top tip would be, if you are a smaller club, look to get players into your first team 23 years and younger. I find if you play these players for a few seasons in lots of games, their value will increase, so long as they have time left on their contract. Its a good idea to try and offer out any higher valued player at the end of the season, see if you can get a good transfer fee for them. You will then be able to reinvest this money into your squad.
  4. Consider selling if clubs are interested in a player. When a club is interested in one of your players, do have a think if its a good time to sell them. You can sometimes command a high transfer fee if a player is wanted by a club and they are at your club on a longer contract.
