How Mourinho changed the way I play football manager

Being a Chelsea supporter, especially with Mourinho as manager, I am used to my team winning. Getting the 3 points on the board is the most important thing. In recent weeks Chelsea have been labeled as "boring" by other teams and managers. At the time of Writing this article Chelsea have scored 68 goals and conceeded 27 goals in the league, with a goal difference of +41. Mourinho's team are currently on 80 points, 13 points ahead of their "rivals" Man City, Arsenal and I guess Man United. I personally love supporting a "boring" team, Mourinho's tactics of just getting the points on the board and getting the job done have a massive influence the way I play football manager.

I often find myself 1 or 2 nil up and shutting up shop to just make sure I get the 3 points. You have to admire any manager who just wants to win, no matter how its done. This is why the other teams in the Premier League have not challenged Chelsea this season.

Chelsea's starting line up for this season has been largely unchanged, Mourinho's faith in his key players is rewarded with him adding another title to his CV. I try to do this where possible on Football Manager, if I have players who play well for me and put in the performances, they they will be rewarded, praised and held in high regard. My current MK Dons team that I am managing has 5-6 key players who have been in the squad for 3-4 seasons now, I am listed as their favourite personal and the MK Dons are listed as their favourite team. This is an excellent position to be in. I have slowly been introducing younger players in to the team to keep the cycle going of having players who want to play for my team and players who I will reward because of this.

An article from skysports.com revealed the oldest and youngest starting line ups in the Premier League. Chelsea's is 27y 26d, this is with the likes of John Terry in the team. Players like Kurt Zouma have been introduced to the Chelsea team and another recent article has hinted that 19 year old Ruben Loftus-Cheek will be playing for Chelsea next season in the Premier League.

This is how to build a team properly, you need to install faith in the players in your team that you will help them to win things if they play well for you. There needs to be an element of ruthlessness in your team selections, if someone is not playing how you need them to play, then you will remove them from the team. Mata being a very good example of this.

For anyone playing Football Manager, I highly recommend you review how Mourinho manages Chelsea, his players, his squad and how he "wins". I highlight it alot in my Youtube videos but to win matches you need players on good morale and good form, the winning then seems to take care of itself. I do believe I have picked up great habbits from Jose and next season, I look forward to playing Premier League football with my MK Dons team.
